Breast Cancer Awareness
October, 2017
We're in this TOGETHER
Please forward the below to your Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend or any one you know and might be concerned.
We realize the importance of understanding how the body works and learning to point out any abnormalities in saving lives, especially when it comes to cancer. The number of women developing breast cancer is increasing; it is estimated that 1 in every 8 women might develop breast cancer.
Early detection is very important and starts from home. Be aware of any signs or changes in your body. Check with your doctor if you discover any of these symptoms.
Symptoms of breast cancer include a lump, bloody discharge and changes in the shape or texture of the nipple or breast. Redness, swollen lymph nodes, or thickening or puckering of the skin is also observed.
Remember, early detection is key! Here are 4 steps that will help for early detection:
1- Perform self-breast exam each month
Stay aware of your body and if you notice any changes or abnormalities, consult with a doctor.
2- Regular Mammograms
Regular mammograms help find breast cancer at an early stage sometimes even before physical symptoms develop, when treatment is most successful.
3- Clinical breast cancer screening
After the age of 20 make sure to have yourself examined by a healthcare provider at least once every three years, and every year after the age of 40.
4- Women at high risk should get MRI & Mammograms every year regardless of their age
Remember that 9 out of 10 breast lumps are not cancerous and early detection is crucial in saving lives.
